The dangerously bent Stockport LibDems who run Stockport tried to pretend that the site for a large primary school wasn't contaminated. They knew it was, and if they didn't I provided them with evidence year after year which they chose to ignore. When forced kicking and screaming to do proper contamination investigations, the entire site was found to be contaminated with lead, arsenic and brown asbestos.
In 1974 Stockport Council refused three planning applications for housing because the site was too contaminated. The dangerously bent Stockport LibDems decided it was fine for a primary school just as it was with all the contamination left in situ.
Document from 1974 (and I have copies of the entire document) stating the Harcourt Street site for the school was unsuitable for building because it had been intensively tipped for the previous 20 years.
